Institution: Kuwait University, Kuwait Research Title: The tACE/Angiotensin (1-7)/Mas Axis Protects Against Testicular Ischemia Reperfusion Injury Abstract Summary: The present study establishes the role of the ACE2/Ang-(1-7)/Mas axis of the RAS in tIR. Most notably, exogenous Ang-(1-7) treatment protected against damage to spermatogenesis and germ cell apoptosis. Our findings suggest that Ang-(1-7) protective action could increase NO bioavailability, inhibit ROS generation, and suppress apoptosis partly via the PI3K/Akt pathway. However, further investigations are warranted to unravel the Ang-(1-7) mechanism of action and the role of its healthy axis in opposing the Ang-IIaxis in the normal and diseased testis. |
